My take on Crazy Heart

by bejusca

So let me start of by saying that Im in no way a pro movie critic or and esteemed writer. I am simply a lover of movies and love to talk about them.
With that said, here’s my quick take on “Crazy Heart”

It’s not to often that you get to use a cliche phrase proudly because you feel it’s true, so here goes nothing…. Jeff Bridges was born to play this role. From his hat hair that always finds a way to look good, the sweat covered denim button up, and a cough that’s just perfect, Jeff IS “Bad Blake”. I was never much for country music, frankly a lot of it sounds the same to me, but thanks to this “to close for comfort” look into this has-been legends’ life, I understand the heartache that goes into these artists’ music. His presents in country music history is apparent thanks to everyone calling him “Mr. Blake” which he always humbly corrects with “Bad”. All in all, a great character you find yourself rooting for throughout the whole 1hr 51min. Maggie Gyllenhaal, Robert Duval, and a nice, unexpected cameo from Colin Farrell round out a great cast for this beautiful story we have heard before, but not as well-played as this. “Crazy Heart” gets a 8-10 in my book.

My take on “Shutter Island”

by bejusca

So let me start of by saying that I’m in no way a pro movie critic or and esteamed writer. I am simply a lover of movies and love to talk about them. With that said, here’s my quick take on shutter island…

Visually awesome. They really walked the walk and talked the talk for the time, right down to the filter-less cigarette. As for the story, I wish I could say that I was more supprised of the twist. No question it’s harder these days to make a smart thriller, but this just reminded me of a less complicated 2010 “Memento”. Personally, I like complicated, it keeps the group talking after the movie. The way the twist was unfolded was nice and the acting was spot on. Some of the hard shots really reminded me of his 1999 “Bringing out the Dead” (nice) and the soundtrack, although overpowering at times, was very Kubrick. All in all I give “Shutter Island” a 7-10 and I do plan on picking up a blu-Ray copy to see those beautiful colors in Teddy’s dreams. See you next time. Thanks for reading!
